Malama Composites Earns USDA Certified Biobased Product Certification and Label for Studio BioFoam®

Bio-based alternative for stage sets, exhibits and museum displays, architectural and industrial design modeling or medical applications

San Diego, CA. (August 26, 2015) — Malama Composites, Inc. has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label and is identified for Federal preferred purchasing for its Studio BioFoam® product. The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label verifies that the product’s amount of renewable bio-based ingredients meets or exceeds levels set by USDA. Biobased products are finished or intermediate materials composed in whole or in significant part of agricultural, forestry, or marine ingredients.

Malama Composites Chairman and CEO, David Saltman said, “Studio BioFoam® represents a fundamental leap forward when it comes to environmental benefits. The label will assist us in building awareness that there is finally a bio-based alternative for stage sets, exhibits and museum displays, architectural and industrial design modeling, prosthetics and orthotics, and tool and die applications.”

“Studio BioFoam® is the only bio-based rigid urethane foam in the world to achieve this certification.  It is a zero emission material that uses vegetable polyols and water as the sole blowing agent.   It hand sculpts beautifully and machine shapes accurately, a proof that eco-friendly products can outperform petroleum-based alternatives, said Saltman.”

All bio-based amount claims are verified by independent labs and monitored by the USDA.   Consumers may feel secure in the accuracy of the bio-based amount and be empowered in making better informed purchasing decisions. “We are proud that Malama Composites, Inc. has earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label,” said Ron Buckhalt, USDA BioPreferred Program Manager. “Biobased products add value to renewable agriculture commodities, create jobs in rural communities and help our nation decrease its reliance on foreign-sourced and non-renewable petroleum.”

The certified product Studio BioFoam® is available for order on Malama Composites’ online ‘Company Store’ with the following label:
