Verdezyne to Supply Bio-Based Adipic Acid for Production of Nylon 6,6 Fibers

Verdezyne, Inc., a privately-held industrial biotechnology company focused on producing renewable chemicals, announced it has entered into a strategic relationship with Universal Fiber Systems, LLC and its operating companies, Universal Fibers, Inc. and Premiere Fibers, Inc. Through its industry-leading sustainable fiber technology, Universal Fiber Systems has pioneered innovation in the development and production of sustainable carpet and apparel yarns that are delivered through its operating companies into commercial carpet fiber and performance apparel fabrics. Verdezyne will supply its bio-based adipic acid to Universal Fiber Systems for certain exclusive fields of use.

“As leaders in sustainable fiber technology, we are extremely pleased to be partnered with Universal Fiber Systems in commercializing Verdezyne’s bio-based adipic acid for use in specialty products such as carpet fiber and performance apparel yarns,” said E. William Radany, Ph.D., president and CEO of Verdezyne. “Universal Fibers and Premiere Fibers have set themselves apart by creating high-performance, innovative and sustainable products, and we are thrilled to be collaborating with such outstanding companies.”

“Within our strategic global markets, great emphasis has been placed on sustainability,” said Marc Ammen, CEO of Universal Fibers Systems. “Some companies focus on a cradle-to-cradle model, while others seek to reduce environmental impact and avoid petroleum depletion. Universal products support both of these initiatives. Our commitment to sustainability is steadfast and unwavering. We believe that microorganisms can be the chemical producers of the future, and we welcome this opportunity to work toward common objectives with Verdezyne on our quest to achieve sustainability while employing any and all technologies.”
