Successfully grow Chamomile, lemon balm and Valerian – overall standings in the demonstration project medicinal plants

The demand for medicinal plants from domestic production is not covered

Medicinal plants are specialty crops, which require much expertise and high initial investment, offer potentially also a high value added. Currently, the demand is not covered after medicinal plants from domestic production. Therefore, the BMEL about the FNR promotes the extensive demonstration project “Improving the international competitive position of the German medicinal plant cultivation on the example of the breeding and growing technological optimization of Chamomile, valerian and lemon balm”, short camel, with a total of 35 individual projects. The first part of the project started in 2006, the last will be completed by 2020. In particular the breeding projects require much time.
Installation instructions belong to the already existing results for farmers, a selection is here available (only in German).

At the end of the project the results should be made also accessible for farmers agricultural advice, the Internet and print media.
