The starting signal has been given for the new joint project LOOPCYCLING. The aim of the project is to significantly develop the mechanical recycling of plastic packaging – a key step towards a functioning and sustainable circular economy.

At the first consortium meeting on May 14, 2025, all 18 project partners from industry and research came together at the HydroDyn Technology Center in Schwerin for the first personal exchange in the LOOPCYCLING network. In addition to an exclusive factory tour with ongoing project trials, initial results on the de-inking of post-consumer recycled films were presented – a promising start that highlights the potential of joint research.

“Sustainability is not a trend – it is a commitment. We are pleased and proud to have such a strong consortium at our side to significantly advance the circular economy for plastics and flexible packaging – and this is urgently needed.” – Prof. Christian Hopmann.

The consortium brings together players from the entire value chain: from raw material manufacturers, machine builders and processors to recyclers and system service providers. Among others, they include:
BASF, Brückner Maschinenbau, CONSTAB, Constantia Flexibles, Coperion, Der Grüne Punkt, Dow, ENTEX, Essity, Evonik, Hellweg Maschinenbau, HydroDyn, RKW, Siegwerk, SÜDPACK, TOMRA, Windmöller & Hölscher and Zeppelin Systems.

Many thanks to our industry partners for their intensive cooperation. The project impressively demonstrates that the industry is not just making promises, but is actively working on concrete solutions for a functioning plastics cycle.

Do you want to actively promote mechanical recycling with us?

Would your company like to promote improved sustainability and optimum plastics recycling? Then now is the right time to become part of the solution. IKV looks forward to exchanging ideas with you – join the LOOPCYCLING consortium on the road to a circular plastics economy.
