The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) and the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) partnered up in an extensive modelling project which investigated how much biomass might be sustainably available for the chemical and derived material industries. The results – exploring the critical question: “Can biomass sustainably supply 20% of the carbon needs of the chemical and feedstock industries by 2050?” – will be presented in an insightful webinar next week Monday, open to all interested stakeholders.
Date: Monday, 3 February 2025
Time: 13:00-14:00 CET
Platform: Zoom
This timely event coincides with the release of a new report on this topic, jointly funded by BIC and the RCI. Conducted by nova-Institute in collaboration with EuroCARE Agricultural Policy Research and the Thünen Institute of Forestry (TI-WF), the study explores the potential of agricultural and forestry biomass to revolutionise the chemical sector.
Webinar highlights:
- Overview of biomass use in the chemical sector today
- In-depth analysis of 2050 modelling scenarios for agriculture and forestry
- Presentation of key findings of the modelling, both for agriculture and forestry
Sneak peek at the findings:
Meeting 20% of the chemical and feedstock sector’s carbon demand from biomass by 2050 appears achievable without compromising food, feed or biofuel supplies. Some interesting findings include:
- Projected 31% increase in agricultural production by 2050
- Expected 38% increase in forestry supply of industrial roundwood by 2050
- Untapped potential of agricultural by-products and lignocellulosic feedstocks such as straw, wood and bio-waste
Who should attend:
- Chemical and materials industry professionals
- Policy makers and regulators
- Bioeconomy and sustainable chemistry researchers
- Investors interested in renewable carbon strategies
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with experts and peers on this important topic. The webinar will include the opportunity to raise questions throughout, allowing for a dynamic discussion of the findings and their far-reaching implications for the bioeconomy.
