Benelux pellet market expected to more than double by 2020

U.S. expected to become main supplier of wood pellets in northwestern Europe

A USDA Foreign Agricultural Service Global Agricultural Information Network report published on in January estimates that the U.S. exported 1.25 million metric tons of wood pellets worth $225 million to the region in 2012. The Benelux market consists of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

According to the report, the Benelux imports more than 95 percent of the wood pellets it consumes, and the U.S. has the potential to supply at least half that market. To meet that demand, however, U.S. exports must comply with sustainability requirements.
