Amber Composites Offers Prepreg Made from Natural Flax Fiber

New Prepreg Uses Biotex Fabric From Composites Evolution

Amber Composites announced that prepreg with fabric made from sustainably-sourced woven flax is now available. The flax fabric, made by Composites Evolution, provides the high performance and easy processing normally associated with glass fiber composites but with lower weight and environmental impact. In addition, improved damping characteristics make it ideal for certain applications.

The new prepreg is available in Amber’s popular Multipreg 8020 epoxy resin system, a low-to-medium cure prepreg which can be used with or without an autoclave. It is suitable for semi-structural and decorative applications in automotive, marine, sports and consumer goods. The initial fabric options are a 400g/m² 2×2 twill, and a 500g/m² plain weave.

“After evaluating many sources for sustainable fabrics, we are pleased to offer a proven solution from Composites Evolution who have created a capable material backed by a solid supply chain”, said Jonathan McQueen, Managing Director of Amber Composites.

“We have a lot of customers ask for prepreg using our Biotex flax fabric and we worked closely with Amber Composites to ensure this solution was available,” said Brendon Weager, Managing Director of Composites Evolution.

Amber Composites and Composites Evolution will be showing both the dry fabric and cured flax prepreg at the upcoming JEC show in Paris, March 27-29. For more information about Amber’s flax-based prepreg, contact sales@ambercomposites.com.
