Two UPM WISA Plywood products will be centre stage at the Grand Designs Live show in London May 4-12 on an unusual stand created by pioneering environmental architects Studio Bark.
Visitors can watch a live build take place, as Studio Bark and Kevin McCloud create a home using the U-Build concept. The public will be invited to get involved by making further modular components from WISA-Birch and WISA-Spruce and adding to the installation. During the event, builders can interact with Fologram augmented reality headsets which guide users through the full building process.
“Wood as a building material is gaining momentum and this project presents an excellent way of showcasing a new and innovative U-Build way to approach sustainable construction. The building can essentially be reconfigured as your needs change – a great innovation in the self-build sector. We are inspired to work with Studio Bark on this project,” says Ari Voutilainen, Director, Stakeholder Relations with UPM Plywood.
“Studio Bark chose WISA Plywood for many reasons, including sustainability, clear chain of custody, reliability and strength, but also because it looks good and is easy to work, with minimal waste,” says Nick Newman, one of Studio Bark’s directors.
The Grand Designs Live event takes place in London 4-12 May 2019 at the ExCeL exhibition centre – U-Build, WISA Plywood and Fologram can be found on stand G101.
