Weishardt Becomes First Fish Collagen Producer to Obtain Friend of the Sea Sustainability Certification

Friend of the Sea, the preeminent certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, is pleased to announce the certification of Weishardt for sustainable fish collagen peptides. The company can thus display the Friend of the Sea ecolabel, most notably on the brand’s renowned product, Naticol®.

Weishardt is one of the world’s leading producers of high-quality fish gelatine, fish collagen peptides. Founded in France in 1839, the company is also very famous for being the first to produce edible gelatin in 1957.

A pioneer in diverse fields, Weishardt decided to embrace sustainability, adopting practices respectful of the environment. Consequently, the company requested the Friend of the Sea certification for its fish collagen peptides products.

Collagen is a fundamental component of the human body, connecting the skin, tissues, muscles, and other body parts, contributing to their healthy functioning. Weishardt developed a diverse range of specific fish collagen peptides, registered under the trademark Naticol®, mainly used in functional food, supplements, nutraceuticals, and cosmetofoods.

Weishardt collagen’s raw material is sourced from byproducts of sustainably farmed and wild aquatic fish species. This way nothing is wasted, in line with the principles of a circular economy, and added value is provided to sustainable practices.

Friend of the Sea is the leading international standard for sustainable nutraceutical products from marine sources. The organization’s mission is to protect aquatic resources employing sustainable practices in all activities related to the marine environment, including, as in this case, the extraction of fish collagen peptides.
