Our readers have voted: the most innovative bioeconomy CEO 2018 is Jürgen Eck, CEO of BRAIN AG, the industrial biotech company headquartered in Zwingenberg (Germany) which is developing innovative solutions and products for successful applications in chemistry and in the cosmetics and food industries..  He succeeds to Ken Richards (Leaf Resources) and Tony Duncan (Circa Group), respectively most innovative CEO 2016 and 2017, both from Australia.

About the winner:

Jürgen Eck studied biology at Darmstadt Technical University, with an emphasis on microbiology and molecular biology. After being awarded a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat) in biochemistry and molecular genetics, he joined the founding team of BRAIN AG in 1994.

In 2000 Dr Eck was appointed to the Management Board of BRAIN AG as Head of Research and Development, CTO. Since the foundation of BRAIN AG Dr Eck has been responsible for the technological basis of the company. Dr Eck is also responsible for the academic collaboration network of BRAIN, involving many national and international research institutes and universities within Europe, Asia, and the USA.

Eck is a member of many commissions and advisory committees, such as the “Association for General and Applied Microbiology” (VAAM), the DECHEMA Committee for Applied Biotransformation and the SusChem Biotechnology Core Group. He is a member of the board of the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS) and co-founder of the “Center of Molecular Evolution and Biodiversity e.V.” in Darmstadt.

On January 1, 2010 Eck was appointed to the Senate Commission of the German Research Foundation (DFG). On July 1, 2015 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of BRAIN AG.
