The Bioeconomy 500 for 2024 Includes Advanced Biofuels USA Executive Director and Board Members

The Bioeconomy 500 honors scientists, engineers, policy makers, financiers, project developers, feedstock pioneers, offtakers, advocates and supply-chain and distribution partners

This week, The Daily Digest included Advanced Biofuels USA Executive Director, Joanne Ivancic and Board Members, Chris Tindal and Todd Campbell in the Bioeconomy 500 for 2024. This annual award by “the world’s most widely-read bioeconomy daily” recognizes individuals for their leadership contributions to the bioeconomy’s development and project deployment. The Bioeconomy 500 honors scientists, engineers, policy makers, financiers, project developers, feedstock pioneers, offtakers, advocates and supply-chain and distribution partners.

Among those listed are Joanne Ivancic, executive director of Advanced Biofuels USA, a nonprofit educational organization based in Frederick, MD, that counts its free online library of nearly 50,000 indexed items as key to its contribution to the transition from a fossil-based to a renewable economy. Advanced Biofuels USA is a bioeconomy resource for everyone around the world, from opinion-leaders, decision-makers and legislators to industry professionals, investors, feedstock growers and researchers, as well as journalists, teachers, students and the general public.

Chris Tindal, a long-time board member and supporter of Advanced Biofuels USA, former Assistant Director at the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI) and current BioFutures Strategic Advisor, State of Queensland, is recognized for his on-going contributions. Tindal’s influence on the transition from fossil-based to renewable fuels goes back to his leadership as the Director for Operational Energy underneath the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Navy for Energy, from which he retired, where he was in charge of setting energy policy and direction for the Department of the Navy and promoting the adoption of alternative fuels and renewable energy resources.

Additionally, he developed intergovernmental, international, and industry relationships throughout the energy field. He was the Navy leader of the pioneering U.S. Department of Agriculture/ U.S.Department of Energy/ U.S. Navy Alternative Fuels Initiative which developed programs to launch the advanced biofuels industry. In this role, Chris successfully led the Great Green Fleet effort, in which the U.S. Navy acquired and used 77 million gallons of F-76 renewable diesel blend for their ships in the Great Green Fleet deployment in 2016.

Board member, Todd Campbell, Principal Development Advisor, Owner, Clean Economy Works LLC has worked on energy, rural, and agriculture policy and issue advocacy for the past 20 years with a goal of improving the quality of life through economic development. He is formerly Senior Policy Advisor for Energy and the Bioeconomy at the United States Department of Agriculture in the Office of the Secretary and Chief of Staff for the Rural Development mission area. In his seven years with the Department, he managed work on regulation development, program implementation, and special initiatives in a number of priorities areas in support of an efficient, renewable, and biobased economy in the United States.

Todd has led work for the Department on commercial aviation biofuel through development of the Farm to Fly initiative and methane utilization with the Biogas Opportunities Roadmap and through a partnership with the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy. More recently, Todd has assisted dozens of companies through almost $200 million of business development. He is experienced steering integrated demonstration unit campaigns, doing complex feasibility analysis for all aspects of biobased manufacturing and renewable energy projects, and generating economic impact studies for regional economic development. Todd grew up in a small town in Western Iowa, and now raises his three boys with his wife on their farm in Vermont.

“The bioeconomy has grown leaps and bounds in the past 10 years,” said Digest editor Jim Lane, “and it is usually told as a story of technologies and Net Zero pledges — but it is individuals who actually translate opportunity into accomplishment, and the Bioeconomy will recognize those individuals who played the leading part. Congratulations to all the winners and the supporters who nominated and campaigned for them.”

“We are pleased to enjoy the international recognition from the bioeconomy community reflected by our inclusion in this prestigious listing. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of all ‘The 500’ at The Digest’s Advanced Bioeconomy Leadership Conference in Washington, DC,” noted Ivancic.

Medals will be awarded at a ceremony at the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference 2024 in Washington, DC March 13-15.  See the full list:  https://advancedbiofuelsusa.info/the-bioeconomy-500-for-2024-outstanding-leaders-of-the-bioeconomy-s-development-and-deployment
