European Biotech Week gathered further momentum in 2018 with 136 events taking place this year in 18 countries, which came together to celebrate the benefits of biotech. The events attracted a broad range of participants, from researchers and professionals to curious students, across all age groups. Initiatives throughout the week were as diverse as the organisers themselves. They included conferences, workshops, hands on laboratories, exhibitions and open-door days with companies, research institutes and museums. In Brussels, EuropaBio hosted a week-long exhibition, highlighting the role of biotech in delivering on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which took on Place Luxembourg, in the heart of Europe’s capital. The opening of the exhibition was hosted by MEP Christofer Fjellner and was attended by policymakers, scientists, industry peers and a large number of students.
