Romania/Germany: The Hemp-Projekt in Tisza-valley

The reconstruction of commerce and industry in the Balkan area should start with farming. People there are well educated, the soil is fertile and there is a solid continental climate. Together all this is a very good premiss for a new kind of sustainable industrial farming on at least 10.000 hektars.

Um die Wertschöpfung in der Landwirtschaft zu erhöhen, sollten neben Qualitätsnahrungsmitteln auch moderne Industrierohstoffe erzeugt werden. Dazu eignet sich insbesondere der Hanf.

Carin SA, a romanian stock corporation sited at Arad, near the frontiers to Hungary and Jugoslavia (owned since 1998 by the german TreuHanf Aktiengesellschaft) is an enterprise producing hemp to supply insulation materials and compounds to the automotive industry. Many potential customers (Dräxlmaier, Lear Group, Magna) are based at Arad and Temeszvar. BMW and Gerling Insurance will join in the hemp project within the scope of a UNEP program.

On about one third of the area, hemp fibre to produce compounds and building materials will be grown. Hemp plants will be engineered genetically so as to produce biological plastics together with the fibre. An employee of TreuHanf is planning to do a Ph.D. Thesis on this subject.

With the help of SAPARD, a EU financing program, Carin SA will build up an efficient agricultural enterprise able to produce sugar beet, cereals, potatoes etc. with a high gain in world market conditions.

The project creates work and economy outside of conurbation areas. Growing industrial raw materials for clients ( put directly on order ) can be taken as a model for countries in the third world. The project is corresponding to the conditions concerning countries joining the EU and can be sponsored. Besides it improves lokal food for export. So the Balkan area takes advantage of this most important phase of its economical growth.
