Olivebio joins GO!PHA

OliveBio, the Los Angeles-based (CA, USA) start-up laser-focused on lowering the barriers for PHA adoption across industries, is joining GO!PHA network

GO!PHA (Global Organization for PHA) is a coalition of over 70 stakeholders with members, including material producers, brand owners, academic institutions, waste management organizations, start-ups, environmental foundations, and dedicated individuals. Their mission is promote the use of natural, renewable, and sustainable materials, such as PHA, to enable the transition to a circular economy.

The young start-up is a team made up of biologists, geneticists, and bioinformaticians brought together by the desire to solve difficult problems with far-reaching implications. Their diverse backgrounds and expertise converge on one goal – to transform the plastics industry through the development of PHA monomers, polymers, and copolymers that are: Home compostable, marine degradable, versatile, cheap to produce, free of carcinogens and endocrine disrupting chemicals, and use renewable or waste-based feedstocks.

The company is developing a PHA production process designed to lower costs, increase scalability, and improve consistency – key to making PHAs more accessible and commercially viable. OliveBio’s innovative approach sits at the intersection of cell-free molecular biology, chemistry, engineering, and AI, bringing a fresh perspective to the future of PHA production.

Renewable Carbon Plastics and OliveBio are currently planning to collaborate on a series of articles focussing on PHAs. And if you are keen to learn even more about PHAs, check out the 4th PHA World Congress we will host later this year – stay tuned!
