“Smaller and medium sized food producers that are aiming for high quality of and healthy ingredients in their craft products often want an optimised packaging that increases shelf life, features excellent barrier properties and also minimises the impact on the environment”, says Peter Löfvenholm of BioBag International. “What is more, as we are talking about e.g. craft bakeries or other smaller food businesses, these companies have no need for high volumes.”
BioBag has developed a novel pouch packaging that takes all these demands of craft food companies into account. “The pouch is combining several biobased films that all are certified compostable according to the European Norm 13432, and we sell it in very flexible quantities starting with just one carton.”
The pouch is a multilayer solution that is combining FSC certified paper and several layers of starch-based and cellulose-based bioplastics. The result is seal-strength, seal integrity, a good moisture barrier, light barrier and gas / aroma barrier combined with stiffness, heat-resistance and fine printability. The packaging is completed by certified compostable labels that can be printed according to the customers’ wishes.
