Novamont (Eschborn / Germany) is building a plant for the production of “Mater-Bi” biopolymers from starch in Terni (Umbria, Italy) at a cost of around EUR 15m. The total investment for the project is about EUR 100m.
The additional capacity will double Novamont’s biopolymer output to 40 t/y. The first systems are scheduled to go on stream in July 2006 and the majority of the plant should be up and running by summer 2007, the company said. The raw material will come mainly from the region´s agriculture, predominantly maize.
