Dr. rer. nat. Pia Skoczinski joined the nova-Institute in April 2018, working in the Technology and Markets department.
Tasks at nova-Institute
Pia is responsible for Industrial Biotechnology, Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) and bio-based building blocks and polymers. Pia is nova`s conducting researcher for the national project BioCOnversion coordinated by CLIB2021 and is also involved in the EU funded project BioRECO2VER. Both projects are dealing with the conversion of syngas or CO2 to value added chemicals. In addition, she is mainly responsible for the annually updated market report on “Bio-based Building Blocks and Polymers – Global Capacities, Production and Trends”.
Background and expertise
Pia is trained as a biologist and has several years of research experience in optimisation of microbial cell factories, enzyme engineering and enzyme-catalysed polymerisation. After receiving her PhD in biology in 2016 from the Heinrich Heine University of Duesseldorf, she did a one-year postdoctoral research at the University of Groningen in Macromolecular and Polymer chemistry. Pia has authored and co-authored several publications and research proposals during her research career.
