New European Bauhaus Mission: Join the Wood4Bauhaus support letter

Dear InnovaWood members, partners & Wood4Bauhaus friends,

The five EU Missions were launched in 2021 as a novel instrument for Horizon Europe to tackle major societal and environmental challenges and achieve ambitious, inspiring goals. In July 2023, the European Commission has proposed a novel sixth Horizon Europe Mission dedicated to the New European Bauhaus (NEB) which shall focus on the built environment and transform neighbourhoods in beautiful, sustainable and inclusive spaces.

If endorsed by the Member States and the R&I community, the NEB Mission would be embedded in Horizon Europe with an own work programme and substantial possibilities for R&I funding in the coming years. This is a great opportunity to raise more awareness and gain more support for the codesign of biobased solutions.

The Wood4Bauhaus Alliance represents the European industry, research and innovation ecosystem around wood-based materials and engineered products for construction. We wish to support to the EC’s proposal to establish the NEB Mission under Horizon Europe. In our view it can become an essential driver to speed up and to upscale the twin digital and green transformation, notably of the built and living environment within the Circular Bioeconomy at large.

Find attached our support letter, which points out the important role that the NEB Mission can play for fostering biobased materials and products in sustainable construction. It responds to the NEB Mission working paper and gives specific recommendations to shape the NEB Mission. 

The open letter is addressed to the Permanent Representations of the EU countries in Brussels and the National science ministries. These are currently debating the NEB Mission proposal in the EU Council and will be deciding soon whether this can go forward. We are circulating the letter right now in our networks.
