More biodiesel capacity in the US

The number of biodiesel producers in the US keeps growing up: Smitjfield Foods Inc., one of the largest pork processor and hog producer in the US, recently announced its intention to build a new USD20 million biodiesel facility through a joint venture with BEST BioFuel LLC. The facility could start producing fuels as early as October 2003. Construction is scheduled to start in April 2003.

American BioFuels (ABF) has also signed a joint venture with Hondo Chemical Inc, an organic fertilizer manufacturer, to build a 35 million gallon per year plant, the largest biodiesel plant in the US. Production is expected to begin in the second quarter.

Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., a subsidiary of DuPont, also recently announced plans to use biodiesel in its farm and tractor equipment and over-the-road diesel vehicles from April 2003 onwards.
