Metsä Group's Sustainability report 2015 has been published

This Sustainability Report provides a comprehensive outlook for the most essential sustainability issues in our operations.

Metsä Group (the parent company of Metsä Wood) produces sustainable and recyclable products from northern wood, products that millions of people around the world need. The world’s population is growing, competition for energy and natural resources is becoming tighter, and resources must be used more efficiently. For Metsä Group, the changes in the operating environment create versatile opportunities as a forerunner of the bioeconomy.

Metsä Wood offers competitive wood products for construction, industrial customers and distributor partners. We manufacture products from Sustainable Nordic Wood, the world’s best renewable raw material.

Our key strength is industrial efficiency delivered through commitment, reliability and quality. We use 100% traceable wood from northern forests, and our facilities are surrounded by these forests, which ensures a reliable supply.

The northern wood has multiple excellent properties. As a building material, it is lightweight, fast to build with, and sustainable. The strength-to-weight ratio of wood is in a class of its own compared to other building materials. Prefabricated modular wood elements also shorten construction time significantly. Wood products are recyclable, and as a renewable raw material wood stores carbon throughout its life cycle.

The market for wood products is continuously growing alongside population growth and urbanisation, as construction and transport volumes are increasing globally. Metsä Wood’s success is based on our ability to create value for customers in the form of efficient ways of operating and new product innovations. We hold a strong position in Europe and have ambitious growth targets, particularly in Asia and the United States.

Sustainability is integrated into everything we do. Our sustainability principles and Code of Conduct guide our operations and support responsible leadership at Metsä Group. In addition, the carefully set sustainability targets are an important part of sustainability management at Metsä Group.

Metsä Group is committed to the UN Global Compact, a corporate responsibility initiative and its principles covering the areas of human and labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption. We also acknowledge the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and continuously develop our operations in close link to them.
