Metabolix finds help for PVC plastics with new PHA application

PVC gets a lift, and so do the commercial prospects with Metabolix and its biobased PHA polymers, with a new application in PVC plastics

Among the ironies associated with the Broadway original cast recording of Hair, and its anthemic “Let the Sunshine In” was that, of course, you couldn’t.

The album was made of (polyvinyl chloride) plastic, or PVC, and UV radiation has traditionally caused PVC to discolor and lose impact resistance. Let the sunshine in – and immediately you had problems. They also were known, left in a windowsill, to melt.
