Messer launches with ZeCarb new "Carbon Capture as a Service" offering

With “ZeCarb”, Messer is responding to the growing global demand for solutions to reduce CO₂ emissions in industrial processes. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA, iea.org), 1.2 gigatonnes of CO₂ emissions must be prevented each year through Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage (CCUS) alone in order to achieve the net zero scenario by 2050. Messer is making a contribution to this with its new “ZeCarb” service, drawing on decades of experience in the field of CO₂ recovery.

Messer captures CO₂emissions – for example from steel, cement, glass, paper or chemical production or from fossil-fired power plants for electricity and heat generation – before they are released into the atmosphere. The recovered CO₂ is then used in applications that aim to reduce the use of fossil fuels. For example, in the production of synthetic fuels, so-called eFuels, or sustainable aviation fuels. As an alternative to utilization, the recovered CO₂ is permanently stored in geological formations underground. Particularly depleted oil and gas fields, which have stored a mixture of natural gas, nitrogen and CO₂ for millions of years, are used for this purpose.
