LignoTech Breakthrough in Thermoset Technology

LignoTech Developments has developed a breakthrough in thermoset resin additives

LignoTech Developments manufactures a bio-based extender for thermoset resins and is located in New Zealand. It explains that the patented technology has been developed to thermally and chemically treat bio-waste streams such as corn waste from ethanol plants to use as a thermoset resin additive. According to Russell Fisher, North American Technical Specialist, “The bio-based extender will offer composite companies a competitive advantage by changing to a green renewable solution that can lower costs”.

In addition, LignoTech says its material has a lower specific gravity which is a key competitive advantage by reducing weight. It explains that independent testing in the US has indicated that LignoTech material can replace a portion of the composite materials now used in thermoset matrices. BMC, SMC and Pultrusion have been successfully tested.
