1. European Commission Officially Recognised ISCC EU for the Certification of RFNBOs, RCFs & Forest Biomass

Fantastic news came at the end of 2024. ISCC EU has officially been recognised by the European Commission (EC) for the certification of Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs), Recycled Carbon Fuels (RCFs) and forest biomass. The EC published the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/3176 in the Official Journal of the European Union on 19 December 2024.
We have already conducted various pilot projects on certifying RFNBOs and RCFs, both within the European Union and internationally. Further, in November 2024, we issued our first ISCC RFNBO certificate in Denmark, thanks to their early recognition of ISCC in July 2024. We are excited to launch ISCC EU certificates for RFNBOs and RCFs soon. Let’s keep up this momentum!
2. EURACTIV – Fueling the Future: The Use of RFNBOs & RCFs For Decarbonising Challenging Sectors

As the world intensifies its efforts to combat climate change, sectors such as aviation, shipping, and heavy manufacturing remain difficult to decarbonise as they rely heavily on fossil fuels. Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) and Recycled Carbon Fuels (RCFs) offer a solution to fill this gap. They require investment, clear legislation, and rigorous certification to trigger and scale up their production.
This article is part of Euractiv’s special report Certification as a tool to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Click on the button below to read about ISCC’s opinion on using RFNBOs and RCFs to reach greenhouse gas reduction targets!
3. Coated up & Certified: System User Allnex’s Success Story

Our certifications cover a wide range of products and materials – even those hiding in plain sight. Our collaboration with allnex, the world’s leading supplier of resin for industrial coatings, has been a long-lasting and impactful one. By obtaining their ISCC certification, allnex can offer alternatives to their product portfolio and assure their customers that our rigorous certification process backs these options. In turn, and in consultation with allnex’s technology experts, we introduced several new chemical categories to the ISCC PLUS material list.
4. Last but not Least – A Successful Start to 2025!

And last but not least, we wish you a successful 2025! As we celebrate our 15th anniversary in 2025, we reflect on our journey, which began in 2006 with a multi-stakeholder dialogue on biofuel certification needs. We issued our first certificate in 2010 and established the ISCC Association. We have been recognised by the European Commission since 2011, and today, we are a leading certification system, with over 13,000 certificates issued in more than 130 countries, collaborating with 67 Certification Bodies and uniting 310 members in our Association. We look forward to another year of growth and collaboration. Thank you for staying engaged by reading our newsletter!
