Invitation: Workshop on label for bio-based products, 5 September 2014, Brussels

Adressed to stakeholders from companies producing bio-based materials as well as labelling and certification

Labelling for bio-based products is currently widely debated – but how can it be implemented to meet the needs of consumers and producers and to increase market uptake of bio-based products?

We invite you to take part in our one-day workshop that will discuss the requirements that a label would need to fulfil in order to adequately represent bio-based products. More specifically it will look into the possibilities to broaden the EU Ecolabel (Flower) to include bio-based products.

We invite stakeholders from companies producing bio-based materials as well as labelling and certification bodies to exchange ideas and requirements to answer the following questions:

  • Do we need a European Ecolabel for bio-based products?
  • What criteria should be covered by an Ecolabel for bio-based products?
  • What are factors that would make a bio-based label desirable for industry as well as end consumers?
  • Could the EU Ecolabel (Flower) be expanded to cover bio-based products?
  • What would be the barriers and the opportunities for including bio-based criteria in the EU Ecolabel?

This workshop is part of the Open-Bio project, funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development.

Date: 05.09.2014
