India slashes import duty on refined palm oil and olein

India slashed 15% off the import duty on both RBD palm oil and RBD palm olein to reduce the differentials with other oils. The special additional duty (SAD) has also been withdrawn. Indian industries fear that this might lead to a rise in the imports of refined palm oils at the expense of crude palm oil. Important investments were made over the past years in domestic refining capacity based on the import duty level.
