Also in its fifth year, RCI can look back on a successful track record, having published five major science-based reports on a wide range of topics – all of which are linked to the goal of defossilising the chemical and materials industries:
- EU and Global: Biomass Demand for Transport Fuels, Aviation and Shipping up to 2050 and Implications for Biomass Supply to the Chemical Sector
- Is there Enough Biomass to Defossilise the Chemicals and Derived Materials Sector by 2050? – A Joint BIC and RCI Scientific Background Report
- Evaluating LCA Approaches and Methodologies for Renewable Carbon Sources
- RCI Policy Proposals for Facilitating the Transition to Renewable Carbon
- Increased Methane Emissions in Crude Oil and Natural Gas Supply: Implications for the Carbon Footprint of Petrochemicals
Christopher vom Berg and Michael Carus, executive managers of RCI, will present and summarise these reports, and explain their meaning for the green transition of the EU. They will also provide a concise overview of some further activities, science-based advocacy, ongoing projects, relevant developments in 2025 and future activities of RCI.
The webinar addresses all stakeholders in the circular economy, from industry and business, technology providers, brands, policy-makers and everybody else interested in the renewable carbon economy based on CO₂, biomass and recycling.
Webinar date: 9 December 2025, 2 to 3 pm (CET)

About RCI
The Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) unites companies in a shared mission: to defossilise the chemicals and materials industry by shifting from fossil carbon to renewable carbon sources – biomass, carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) and recycling. Renewable carbon, as defined by the RCI, includes all carbon sources that avoid or replace the use of additional fossil carbon from the geosphere. The initiative addresses climate change by encouraging companies to phase out fossil resources and use renewable carbon instead, promoting a carbon neutral circular economy.
RCI’s vision is to fully replace fossil carbon with renewable carbon from alternative sources by 2050, making chemicals and plastics sustainable, climate-friendly and part of the circular economy.
