Exclusive interview with ADM: A leader in plant-based human and animal nutrition

ADM is shifting from petrochemical ingredients to plant-based alternatives to reduce fossil fuel dependence and combat climate change

The interview with Jan Weernink, Global Marketing Director – BioSolutions at ADM, highlights ADM’s efforts in sustainability and innovation. ADM, a leader in human and animal nutrition, is shifting from petrochemical ingredients to plant-based alternatives to reduce fossil fuel dependence and combat climate change. Jan Weernink assured that ADM’s plant-based ingredients meet the same standards as fossil-derived ones.

Addressing concerns about food security, Jan Weernink argued that using biomass for industrial purposes does not worsen food insecurity and can benefit climate mitigation and food production. ADM’s “Strive35” strategy aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2035 and achieve net zero by 2050, including transitioning their fleet to biodiesel and liquefied natural gas.

The company also emphasizes sustainable sourcing, achieving 100% traceability for its soy supply chain in South America and aiming to be deforestation-free by 2025.

ADM’s membership in the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) helps them to gain a better understanding of the opportunities that are emerging as well as actively support the growth of bio-based materials through renewable carbon principles.
