Creating bioplastics from banana peel

Elif Bilgin, a 16-year-old girl, has found a way to turn banana peel into an environmentally friendly bioplastic

The teenager, who developed the plastic over a period of two years, has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Google Science Fair.

“The bio-plastic is a material which has the potential of causing a biological reform by means of reducing the amount of pollution caused by other plastic materials which contain petroleum derivatives,” said Bilgin.
