The European Commission launched a call for interest today (10 March) to participate in the European Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group, a new platform aimed at accelerating investment in the EU’s growing bioeconomy sector.

The initiative follows the adoption of the Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomyand responds to findings from the European Investment Bank’s report ‘Scaling up Europe’s bio-based industries‘, which highlights both the scale of the investment opportunity and the persistence of financing gaps, in particular for demonstration and first-of-a-kind industrial facilities.

The Deployment Group will bring together the European Commission, the European Investment Bank Group, national promotional banks, private financial institutions and selected investors.

Its objective is to mobilise coordinated public and private investment to scale up bio-based industries, strengthen the pipeline of bankable projects, and improve financing tools such as risk-sharing and blended finance.

Private and public stakeholders active in investment promotion and financing in biobased industries and associated bioeconomy value chains are invited to express their interest in the scoping meeting on 22 April in Brussels. Here, the group’s objectives, scope, and operating modalities will be presented and discussed.

Organisations wishing to engage with the Deployment Group are invited to confirm their interest by 20 March by completing the confirmation form and sending it to ENV-BIOECONOMY-STRATEGY@ec.europa.eu, with DEPLOYMENT.GROUP@cbe.europa.eu in copy.

Expression of interest and participation in the scoping meeting does not pre-judge formal membership of the Deployment Group. Formal invitations to join the Deployment Group will be issued at a later stage.
