Bioplastics, recyclables surging in everyday products from razors to cars

As biobased products become more embedded in everday life, the revolution is bringing bioplastics and recyclables to cars and now even razors.

Earlier this year, Schick debuted the Xtreme3 Eco razor, the first razor designed for maximum sustainability with a handle made from 100 percent recycled plastic. The company estimates they’ll be saving over 118,000 pounds of virgin materials from going into landfills each year by using recycled materials in the new razor.

Plus, the package is made with 100% recycled paper.

To promote the launch, Schick partnered with MAKE magazine and enlisted the help of eco-friendly power couple Amy Smart, star of Showtime’s hit show “Shameless,” and Carter Oosterhouse a green home builder from HGTV, to launch Project ReMAKE – a contest that challenges consumers to reuse common disposable items and reduce waste by creating a functional item out of recycled materials.
