The wine industry is a tremendous business with around 4 million tons of grapes crushed into wine in the United States alone. It also creates a tremendous amount of waste in the form of wine pulp or pomace.
Now, researchers at Oregon State University have discovered a more high-value use for pomace. They’ve used it to create biodegradable packaging materials as well as a natural food preservative and a nutritional enhancement for baked goods.
