Argent Energy Ltd, UK agreed with Biodiesel International of Graz, Austria to build the UK 1st large scale biodiesel plant near Newarthill, Motherwell, Scotland. The facility will be capable of processing most waste oils and fats, saturated or unsaturated, into biofuels. It will also aim at converting used cooking oil into fuel. With a capability of producing 50 million liters of fuel a year, it will be the largest of its type in the world. Construction is expected to begin mid 2003 with production scheduled to start in January 2004. The plant will also provide a waste-disposal solution to the European Union ban on using cooking oil in animal feeds fully effective in 2005.
