Apple to invest in biogas fuel cell technology at US data centre

Electronics giant have revealed plans to build a revolutionary 5MW biogas fuel cell installation at their new $1 billion North Carolina data centre

Data centres currently use between 1.5 and 2 per cent of all the world’s electricity and this rate of consumption is growing by 12 per cent each year, say campaign group Greenpeace.

Finding more environmentally friendly power sources to deliver this energy is of increasing importance to IT companies interested in reducing their carbon footprint and energy costs.
