AITEX and AIMPLAS to develop bio-composites using soybean oil resin and natural fibres

Three-year BIOAVANT project, coordinated by AIMPLAS, will end in 2014

The Technological Institute of Plastics (AIMPLAS) and the Institute of Textile Technology (AITEX) are taking part in the BIOAVANT project which aims to develop ‘bio-composites’ using soybean oil resin and natural fibres.

Using soybean oil resin the two Spanish project partners will try to reduce the amount of petroleum-based polymer in the composite to 60%. Flax, hemp and jute fibres will be used as alternatives to glass fibres.
