As interest in sustainable textiles and cellulose fibers grows worldwide, cost-effective production processes are becoming increasingly important. One of the key challenges is the energy-efficient recovery and reuse of solvents – a critical factor in successfully scaling innovative cellulose fiber production processes from laboratory concepts to commercial applications.
This is particularly relevant for processes using ionic liquids. While their potential in cellulose processing is well recognized, industrial implementation raises important questions: How can high solvent recovery rates be achieved efficiently? What technical challenges arise during scale-up? And what do industrial experience and market developments reveal about their commercial potential?
These questions will be at the center of the next nova-Talk, held online on December 10, 2026.
GKT expert Philipp Mair-Zelenka will focus on the recovery of ionic liquids, addressing key technical considerations and challenges associated with industrial scale-up. Together with Markus Damm (proionic) and Asta Partanen (nova-Institute), he will explore the current and future role of cellulose fibers in textiles, solvent supply and recovery, industrial implementation, and market developments.
The nova-Talk is designed as an interactive discussion rather than a series of presentations. Participants are invited to ask questions and share their perspectives throughout the moderated session.
The event is particularly relevant for professionals in the textile, man-made fiber, chemical, and process engineering industries, as well as specialists in solvents, separation technologies, and industrial scale-up.

Hosted by nova-Institute

nova-Institute is an independent research and science-based consultancy focused on sustainability and renewable carbon cycles. It supports the chemicals, plastics and materials industries in replacing fossil carbon with renewable carbon from biomass, carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), and recycling. Its goal is to defossilise carbon-dependent sectors and enable a circular, climate-neutral carbon economy.
Hosted and moderated by Dr. Asta Partanen, Senior Expert at nova-Institute, the unique nova talk format encourages lively discussions and dialogue with the audience, who are actively invited to ask questions. nova-Institute ensures professional hosting and moderation, guaranteeing consistently high-quality and in-depth content.
