Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) today announces the production of a renewable, biobased propylene glycol that meets United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and USDA Certified Biobased Product Label standards. ADM is the first company worldwide to make a biobased propylene glycol that complies with USP requirements.
Available starting in November 2011, ADM’s propylene glycol USP excipient grade has also earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label, ensuring the product contains 100% biobased content. The product will be sold under the trade name EVO-100™ and sales will commence over the next few weeks.
“ADM recognizes the increased demand for biobased products that reduce carbon footprint while maintaining functionality,” said Paul Bloom, business director, Industrial Chemicals. “Our EVO-100™, propylene glycol USP excipient grade delivers an industry-first product that will help our customers meet the demand.”
The biobased propylene glycol facility began start-up operations in late March 2011 with industrial-grade, biobased propylene glycol production. Since that time, ADM has ramped up the plant’s production capacity and worked toward adding production of propylene glycol which meets USP specifications. “Our propylene glycol facility is an example of the way ADM continues to expand our value-added products portfolio while demonstrating our commitment to safety, teamwork and achieving superior results,” said Bloom.
From excipients in Pharmaceuticals, to stabilizers in animal feed, ADM’s propylene glycol USP excipient grade has myriad applications.
