{"id":98880,"date":"2021-10-15T07:38:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T05:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=98880"},"modified":"2021-10-13T15:27:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T13:27:38","slug":"green-dot-bioplastics-and-mayco-international-team-up-on-reclaimed-fiber-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/green-dot-bioplastics-and-mayco-international-team-up-on-reclaimed-fiber-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Dot Bioplastics and Mayco International team up on reclaimed fiber project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bioplastics producer Green Dot Bioplastics and tier 1 automotive supplier Mayco International have partnered on the development of a sustainable solution for the trim and scrap fibres produced during Mayco\u2019s manufacture of automotive components.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green Dot Bioplastics launched <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greendotbioplastics.com\/materials\/natural-fiber-reinforced-composites\/\" target=\"_blank\">Terratek<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0NFRP<\/a> in 2020, a type of biocomposite using fibers such as hemp, jute, sisal, American Bamboo, and flax, instead of glass or carbon fiber.<br><br>Together, the two companies, both headquartered in the US, developed an NFRP composite material using the trim and scrap fibers, removing them from the waste stream and expanding the lifespan of the original materials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to find a better use of the waste stream from our latest natural fiber composite technologies&#8221; said Mayco International Advanced Development Engineer Chris Heikkila. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We partnered up with Green Dot who specializes in bio resins &amp; natural filled plastic products, because of their expertise &amp; current natural filled product portfolio.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We were excited when Mayco came to us looking for a solution to their waste issue,&#8221; Green Dot Director of Research &amp; Development Mike Parker said. &#8220;They are committed to creating products that are environmentally responsible through sustainable, efficient processes which is exactly what we do at Green Dot.&#8221;<br>Both Green Dot and Mayco International value environmental responsibility, sustainability, and innovation.<br><br>The new material using Terratek<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0NFRP technology aligns with those values, providing a sustainable alternative to carbon-based and traditional plastics.
