The winner of this year\u2019s BIOPOLYMER Innovation Award, announced 15 June during the Biopolymer Processing & Moulding online congress organized by the POLYKUM Association for the Promotion of Polymer Development and Plastics Technology in Germany, was Fabbri Group. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This Italian company was recognized for the development of its Nature Fresh film: the world\u2019s first bioplastic compostable cling film for automatic food packaging, certified as home and industrial compostable according to the Standard EN 13432.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the jury, the cling film protected food, people, and the environment, while offering a performances equivalent to PVC and a better water vapour transmission rate when compared to traditional cling films. It exhibits high mechanical resistance and extensibility, high puncture resistance, offering maximum performance at thicknesses optimised for application, while boasting high levels of transparency and anti-fog properties. The formulation of Nature Fresh is based on a special grade of BASF\u2019s compostable polymer ecovio, specifically developed for Fabbri Group, and ecoflex, another compostable BASF product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fabbri Group is currently working on the development of other bioplastic films for non-stretch applications.
The annual BIOPOLYMER Innovation Award is given to pioneering products or applications of biodegradable polymers, made of materials that at the end of their life can be metabolized by microorganisms into biomass to become part of natural cycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
