Adidas is developing plant-based leather made from fungus and has pledged to expand its vegan range.<\/p>\n
The move is part of the sportswear giant\u2019s sustainability initiative, which commits to using more than 60 percent recycled polyester in its products in 2021.<\/p>\n
Adidas has also \u2018renounced\u2019 animal fur and aims to achieve global climate neutrality by 2050.<\/p>\n
Vegan Range
\nEarlier this year, Adidas launched vegan versions of several classics such as the Stan Smith, the Continental, and the Samba \u2013 which quickly became bestsellers.<\/p>\n
\u201cTogether with partners, Adidas is developing a new material, a purely biological leather alternative made from mycelium, and will use it for the very first time in the creation of footwear,\u201d the brand wrote in a recent press release.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition, Adidas has committed to \u2018Vier Pfoten\u2019, an animal protection organization, to completely ban furs from the manufacturing of its products.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018Invest in sustainability initiatives\u2019
\n\u201cSustainability is an integral part of the Adidas business philosophy,\u201d said CEO Kasper Rorsted.<\/p>\n
