{"id":81789,"date":"2020-11-20T07:23:25","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T06:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=81789"},"modified":"2021-09-09T21:14:26","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T19:14:26","slug":"lanzatech-total-and-loreal-make-plastic-from-captured-co2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/lanzatech-total-and-loreal-make-plastic-from-captured-co2\/","title":{"rendered":"LanzaTech, Total and L\u2019Or\u00e9al make plastic from captured CO<sub>2<\/sub>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LanzaTech, Total and L\u2019Or\u00e9al have premiered the world\u2019s first sustainable packaging made from captured and recycled carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The conversion process takes\u00a0place in three steps:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 LanzaTech captures industrial carbon emissions and converts them into ethanol using a unique biological process.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Total, thanks to an innovative dehydration process jointly developed with IFP Axens, converts the ethanol into ethylene before polymerizing it into polyethylene that has the same technical characteristics as its fossil counterpart.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 L\u2019Or\u00e9al uses this polyethylene to produce packaging with the same quality and properties as conventional polyethylene.<\/p>\n<p>It is a technological and industrial first proving that industrial carbon emissions can be used to produce plastic packaging and paves the way to the development of a sustainable\u00a0circular economy for plastics and new opportunities for the capture and re-use of industrial carbon\u00a0emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The partners now intend to continue working together on scaling the production of these sustainable plastics and look forward to working with all those who want to join them in committing to the use of these new sustainable plastics.<\/p>\n<p>LanzaTech CEO Jennifer Holmgren said: \u201cThis partnership is based on a shared goal of creating a cleaner planet for everyone.
