The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) has launched a new initiative aiming to increase the number of businesses in the sector in Scotland by 100 and leverage \u00a38 million of funding by March 2023.<\/p>\n
The Bioeconomy Cluster Builder, in partnership with the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (EDRF), is intended to drive Scotland\u2019s green recovery.

\nIBioIC names two new business engagement managers and public affairs boss
\nAt its launch on Thursday, July 23, IBioIC chief executive\u00a0 Mark Bustard and senior business engagement manager\u00a0 Russell Clarke , will host a Q& A session with a panel of industry experts.<\/p>\n
They will include KTN knowledge transfer manager\u00a0 Dana Heldt , Ingenza Ltd managing director,\u00a0 Ian Fotheringham , Jane White , director of research and development at Horizon Proteins, Innovate UK\u2019s innovation lead\u00a0 Paul Bello \u00a0and\u00a0 Connor McClure,\u00a0 senior project manager at Scottish Enterprise.<\/p>\n
Bustard\u00a0 said: \u201cThe Bioeconomy Cluster Builder will really help to drive innovation in the sector and will also boost industry engagement outside of the current bioeconomy community.<\/p>\n
“We want to encourage companies, start-ups and spin-outs to look at value chains and other opportunities for the production of renewable biological resources, and their conversion into everyday products, that will help to contribute to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for all.\u201d
\nHeldt \u00a0said: \u201cThis project will bring academia and industry together to research, develop and deploy novel high-tech approaches to the conversion of biomass and waste streams into value-added products and applications.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bioeconomy Cluster Builder project will focus on six value chains – whisky co-products, marine biomass, agricultural biomass, municipal solid wastes and food processing by-products and waste, forestry biomass and carbon capture.<\/p>\n
Future events in the series will focus on a topics including the circular bioeconomy, integration of bioprocessing with food & drink industry, bioresources, chemistry, materials, agritech, artificial intelligence and machine learning to enable efficient data evaluation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
