{"id":76060,"date":"2018-07-11T07:22:45","date_gmt":"2018-07-11T05:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=76060"},"modified":"2020-06-18T12:58:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-18T10:58:45","slug":"high-tech-hemp-homes-australias-3d-printed-green-building-revolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/high-tech-hemp-homes-australias-3d-printed-green-building-revolution\/","title":{"rendered":"High-tech hemp homes: Australia\u2019s 3D-printed green building revolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From 3D-printed buildings\u00a0to hemp-panelled homes, a\u00a0hi-tech green building revolution is under way across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>An Australian company\u00a0has revealed\u00a0plans\u00a0to roll out 3D-printed\u00a0hemp homes, thanks to\u00a0pioneering technology that could\u00a0transform residential and commercial building.<\/p>\n<p>Positioning itself at\u00a0the forefront of\u00a0Australia\u2019s growing hemp industry, Perth-based bio-technology company Mirreco is pursuing a vision of a\u00a0world where \u201cthe dire consequences of global-warming have been averted because we have seized the opportunity to act now\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mirreco\u00a0has developed innovative, carbon-neutral hemp panels for residential and commercial building, which it says can\u00a0be 3D-printed into\u00a0floors, walls, and roofs.<\/p>\n<p>The fast-growing plant is capable of\u00a0absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide, making it a particularly\u00a0efficient and environmentally friendly\u00a0building material.<\/p>\n<p>The panels are \u201cstructurally sound, easy to produce, and provide superior thermal performance\u201d to traditional building materials, the company\u00a0claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust imagine living and working in buildings that are 3D-printed and available to move into in only a matter of weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Described as \u201cAussie ingenuity at its best\u201d, the\u00a0company recently\u00a0released the concept for a sustainable hemp home, designed by\u00a0Perth-based\u00a0architectural firm Arcforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe floors, walls and roof will all be made using hemp biomass, and the windows will incorporate cutting-edge technology that allows light to pass through glass where it is converted into electricity,\u201d Mirreco\u00a0says.<\/p>\n<p>The world\u2019s first liveable 3D-printed homes<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Dutch town of Bosrijk, near the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven, was recently announced as\u00a0the site for\u00a0the\u00a0world\u2019s first inhabitable 3D-printed houses.<\/p>\n<p>Project Milestone consists\u00a0of five sustainable, 3D-printed concrete houses,\u00a0with residents expected to move in as soon as next year.<\/p>\n<p>Built by a consortium of partners\u00a0and spearheaded by\u00a0the Eindhoven University of Technology, the project has been described by developers as a \u201cgame changer\u201d which will \u201cstimulate 3D building\u201d worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this technology we can do things we couldn\u2019t do before,\u201d EUT\u00a0Professor of\u00a0the Built Environment\u00a0Theo Salet says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn design, for instance, we can create shapes that normally can hardly be made, and that if they can be made, are only produced in large quantities.
