{"id":74806,"date":"2020-05-15T07:20:06","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T05:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=74806"},"modified":"2020-05-12T12:12:07","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T10:12:07","slug":"latvian-firm-to-pursue-focus-on-bio-based-glues-and-resins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/latvian-firm-to-pursue-focus-on-bio-based-glues-and-resins\/","title":{"rendered":"Latvian firm to pursue focus on bio-based glues and resins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Latvia-based birch plywood producer Latvijas Finieris is aiming to focus more on using bio-based glues and resins in its panel products.<\/p>\n<p>The company made the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finieris.com\/en\/company\/news\/news\/latvijas-finieris-emphasizes-product-development-and-process-efficiency\" target=\"_blank\">statement of intention<\/a> as its executive board started to work on the company\u2019s 2020-2027 development strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main priorities for coming years are clearly noticeable \u2013 product development and process efficiency,\u201d said Latvijas Finieris CEO Janis Ciems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImproving the quality of plywood and adding value to by-products will play a great role in product development and diversification,\u201d added Latvijas Finieris board member Maris Bumanis. \u201cFurther development of RIGA ECOlogical glue and resins will be pursued, gradually replacing fossil-based raw materials with bio-based solutions, including lignin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Latvijas has already developed for its RIGA branded birch plywood a new green glue RIGA ECOlogical, where bio-based renewable lignin is used as replacement for traditional phenol.<\/p>\n<p>Latvijas is not the only company developing bio-based glues. A number of researchers and brands are also producing alternatives to fossil-fuel based glues. Researchers from Aalto University, the University of Tokyo, Sichuan University, and the University of British Columbia have recently developed a bio-based superglue.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/biomarketinsights.com\/michelin-led-project-formed-to-create-new-svhc-free-bio-sourced-adhesive-resin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michelin-led project<\/a> is aiming to create a new adhesive resin without any \u2018substances of very high concern\u2019 (SVHC)classified\u00a0 compounds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Latvia-based birch plywood producer Latvijas Finieris is aiming to focus more on using bio-based glues and resins in its panel products.
