Many employees, partners, customers and investors came to this event to observe the beginning of a new era of bioplastics.<\/p>\n<p>Danimer Scientific will produce PHA under the trade name Nodax.<\/p>\n<p>Nodax PHA is\u00a0100% bio-based\u00a0and\u00a0biodegradable\u00a0in anaerobic, soil, fresh water and marine environments.\u00a0It biodegrades as fast as cellulose powder or wood pulp in a proper waste management setting and will\u00a0biodegrade over\u00a0six months in ocean water.<\/p>\n<p>Nodax\u2122 PHA has a low melt temperature and crystallinity with broad process window.<\/p>\n<p>The production of Nodax PHA starts with fermentation: canola oil is consumed by soil bacteria and converted into PHA. The PHA is processed into a powder form and mixed with other biopolymers resulting in a biodegradable plastic resins.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0PHA biopolymer\u00a0will be used to manufacture\u00a0drinking straws, food\u00a0packaging, cups, bottles,\u00a0shopping bags, plates,\u00a0trash bags, labels and more.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky provided tax incentives for more than $1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>The PHA will be commercially available but the estimated annual production will be around 10.000 tons per year.
