This study will pave the way for the implementation of a plant capable of creating 1000 liters of renewable jet fuel per day. This would be the first time ever that production of renewable jet fuel from air exceeds laboratory scale.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The goal of the study is to define the concept &amp; basic engineering of onsite production of renewable fuels. Further, it will enable a cost estimate for both the actual construction of the plant and the fuel itself, which will be decisive for further project development. The consortium is coordinated by EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft GmbH.<\/p>\n<p>A combination of highly innovative technologies has the potential to enable a carbon-neutral future for the aviation industry. Here is how it\u2019s done:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Climeworks secures the supply of the core element of renewable jet fuel production: CO<sub>2<\/sub> from air.<\/li>\n<li>CO<sub>2<\/sub> is then transformed to syngas with electrolyser cells from Sunfire GmbH (Dresden, Germany).<\/li>\n<li>By means of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, Interatec GmbH (Karlsruhe, Germany) turns the syngas into synthetic hydrocarbons.<\/li>\n<li>EDL Anlagenbau GmbH (Leipzig, Germany) converts those hydrocarbons into jet fuel (as well as taking care of the overall process and plant integration).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65596\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65596\" style=\"width: 494px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-65596\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Neutral-Fuels_v17_Source_Climeworks-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"Clsoing the Carbon Cycle (Source: Climeworks)\" width=\"494\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2019\/08\/Neutral-Fuels_v17_Source_Climeworks-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2019\/08\/Neutral-Fuels_v17_Source_Climeworks-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2019\/08\/Neutral-Fuels_v17_Source_Climeworks-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 494px) 100vw, 494px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65596\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clsoing the Carbon Cycle (Source: Climeworks)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The project will be realized on Rotterdam\u2019s Innovation Campus. The entire process is set to run sustainably, with renewable energy provided by the airport\u2019s onsite solar panels. The first potential customer has announced itself: Transavia has committed itself to the plan and indicated it intentions to reduce its CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions with renewable jet fuel from air.
