The venue, the very prestigious Marmorsaal in the premises of the Federal Austrian Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism, was fully packed with representatives from some 20 European countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0conference, entitled\u00a0\u201cVision 2040: The future role of the forest bioeconomy in Europe\u201d,\u00a0aimed\u00a0to show that\u00a0the forest-based sector\u00a0is a\u00a0leading actor in and enabler of a circular bioeconomy.\u00a0Representatives of the\u00a0European Commission,\u00a0national public authorities,\u00a0as well as\u00a0researchers,\u00a0business representatives and forest owners tookpart\u00a0in\u00a0panel debates and\u00a0inspiring talks.\u00a0All in order to help moving\u00a0from promises to\u00a0actually achieving real facts and figures.<\/p>\n<p>A message by\u00a0Elisabeth K\u00f6stinger, Austrian\u00a0Federal\u00a0Minister for Sustainability and Tourism\u00a0opened the conference\u00a0by congratulating\u00a0the stakeholders of\u00a0the Forest-based Sector Technology Platform\u00a0on\u00a0the successful launch of a new\u00a0Vision\u00a0for\u00a02040:\u00a0\u201cI am pleased that you have selected Vienna as the venue for the FTP conference.\u00a0The forest-based sector is one of the largest industrial sectors in Europe.\u00a0It is very important for Austria\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Vision, which includes\u00a0ten Vision Targets for 2040, \u2013 K\u00f6stinger Continued \u2013 is very ambitious. It\u00a0will require policymakers, Member States\u2019 administrations and the stakeholders of the forest-based sector to work together to make the Vision a reality. This job starts today\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe European forest-based sector has a major\u00a0role to play in\u00a0the bioeconomy.\u00a0The sustainable management of forests,and the provision of wood,\u00a0for various uses in implementing the bioeconomy plays a crucial role for the future development of our society. In this context,\u00a0future EU research policies\u00a0will be decisive for a successful bioeconomy development\u201d,\u00a0stated Peter Mayer,\u00a0Managing Director of the\u00a0Austrian\u00a0Research Centre for Forests (BFW)\u00a0and co-chair of the FTP National Support Group in Austria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year was a record year for European funding to\u00a0boost research and innovation in the\u00a0forest-based sector. The\u00a0positive trend demonstrates\u00a0confidence\u00a0that\u00a0forest owners and\u00a0industry\u00a0can deliver\u00a0sustainable\u00a0bioproducts and technologies that\u00a0will enable the EU to make true\u00a0on its\u00a0commitments to\u00a0the\u00a0Paris\u00a0Climate\u00a0Agreement and theUnited Nations Sustainable Development Goals\u201d,\u00a0explained\u00a0Johan Elvnert, FTP Managing Director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can provide solutions to the global challenges like no other sector. This is why a European Vision, based on the efforts of the whole forest-based sector is so important. FTP Vision 2040 is fully aligned with\u00a0S\u00f6dras\u00a0vision for the future\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Lena Ek, Chair of the Board of FTP and President of\u00a0S\u00f6dra,\u00a0Sweden\u2019s largest forest-owner association,\u00a0and\u00a0an international forest industry Group\u00a0with net sales in 2017 amounting to 2 billion Euro.<\/p>\n<p>A new\u00a0Strategic\u00a0Research and Innovation\u00a0Agenda,\u00a0to be launched in 2019,\u00a0will\u00a0provide\u00a0the roadmap that will enable the forest-based sector to achieve its Vision 2040, in cooperation with public authorities and the European Community.<\/p>\n<p>In enim justo, rhoncus ut, imperdiet a, venenatis vitae, justo.
