{"id":59037,"date":"2018-12-11T07:32:05","date_gmt":"2018-12-11T06:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=59037"},"modified":"2019-03-28T13:37:36","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T12:37:36","slug":"carbolice-announces-official-launch-of-evanesto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/carbolice-announces-official-launch-of-evanesto\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbiolice announces official launch of Evanesto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Carbiolice, a French start-up created in 2016, formally announced during a presentation at the European Bioplastics Conference currently taking place in Berlin, the launch of their innovative enzymated masterbatch called Evanesto, which offers a totally biodegradable solution for PLA.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-59039 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/wImage.php_2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"wImage.php\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2018\/12\/wImage.php_2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2018\/12\/wImage.php_2.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>The masterbatch, in a concentration of less than 5%, is added to a compound with a high content of PLA, which, said presenters Clementine Arnault and Sophie Macedo, causes the PLA to become suitable for home composting.<\/p>\n<p>The enzyme masterbatch has been engineered to become activated only in certain conditions, explained Clementine. \u201cIt will become active at a certain pH, temperature and humidity \u2013 and these are not conditions under which it is stored and processed. They are the conditions found in a domestic compost heap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tests with thin films have shown that complete degradation is achieved within a time frame of 182 days. Testing is still ongoing for thicker films, but the initial results \u2018have been positive\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-59040 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/wImage.php2_.jpg\" alt=\"wImage.php2\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/>The company plans to work on the scale-up in 2019 and look for partnerships in 2020, for the commercial deployment of the product in non-food applications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking for strong collaborations to make the technology available,\u201d said Sophie Macedo.<\/p>\n<p>Carbiolice is the result of an alliance between Limagrain C\u00e9r\u00e9ales Ingr\u00e9dients, a global seed company, CARBIOS, a green chemistry company developing enzymatic technologies, and the investment fund SPI, managed by Bpifrance.
