Wie die Autoren des IDW mitteilen, entwickelte Dr. Tjhin-Lok Tan vom <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awi-bremerhaven.de\/\" >Alfred-Wegener-Institut f\u00fcr Polar- und Meeresforschung<\/a> (AWI) ein inzwischen patentiertes mikrobiologisches Verfahren, um mit Hilfe des Bakteriums gro\u00dfe Mengen dieses Farbstoffs zu gewinnen. Das Violacein dient der Zelle zum Schutz vor Sonnenstrahlung und zur Regelung der Tryptophankonzentration unter das toxische Niveau.
