This project, funded in part by the Government of Canada\u2019s Sectoral Initiatives Program, will improve labour market information available to the industry, enhance skills recognition and improve recruitment to ensure employers have access to the talent they need.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National Occupational Standards are vital to outline the skills and knowledge bio-economy professionals are expected to possess to achieve business objectives within the sector. NOS support human resource plans on both sides of the labour market and enable employers to recruit and retain skilled workers while allowing job seekers to effectively plan their skills development to attract employers and optimize their performance.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are excited to be expanding our labour market research to develop national occupation standards,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0says Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada.\u00a0<em>\u201cThis project aligns perfectly with the recently announced national labour market census project because we will able to leverage research opportunities, our outreach to industry and perhaps data between the projects to provide more robust results to the industry.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The new initiative is aligned with the recent recommendations in Canada\u2019s Economic Strategy Tables report: \u201cThe Innovation and Competitiveness Imperative\u201d for the Health and Bioscience sector especially for creating a Skills hub to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>drive the necessary changes to skills and talent programs;<\/li>\n<li>develop a roadmap for the jobs of the future and the skills and competencies they will require; and<\/li>\n<li>act as a focal point for gathering and disseminating labour market information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over the next three years, working with the industry and its partners, BioTalent Canada will build upon its existing Skills Profiles and other information to create 51 National Occupation Standards (NOS) to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>facilitate strategic labour mobility and labour market efficiency<\/li>\n<li>enable students, new graduates, and other under-represented groups to make informed employment decisions<\/li>\n<li>align post-secondary initiatives to industry needs<\/li>\n<li>strengthen employers\u2019 recruitment efforts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new National Occupation Standards will be available on the BioTalent Canada website, as well as other labour market research, and will be incorporated into the BioSkills Recognition Program as well as several of BioTalent Canada\u2019s products and services.
